Fitna is fitnah
I’m saddened by people who are stubbornly, stupidly and systemically misinterpreting the Holy Quran for the wrong reasons. Last time it was the much controversial caricature of Prophet Muhammad. To me, there are obvious political reason Mr Wilders to do so. He’s a politician who calls upon freedom of speech. Yes, as I said before, I do support freedom of speech but it must be done with responsibility. They are not doing any good in improving inter-religious faith. The Quranic verses is not merely read by only ONE verse. To get the whole picture and true meaning you must read the verse before and the verse after. Lets look at the verses in the 15 minute movie (highlighted in red)
First was Surah Al-Anfal (The Spoils of War) verse 60
” Against them, make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including the steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and you enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah do know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and shall not be treated unjustly.”
And this is the continuation,
……….”But if the enemyy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah: for he is the one that heareth and knoweth (all things).”
Basically this surah is about the ethics of “War Engagement” in Islam. Incline to peace if the enemy inclines to peace in times of war.
Secondly, Surah An-Nisa (The Women), verse 56
” Those who reject our Signs, we shall soon cast into the fire: as often as their skin are roasted through, we shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the penalty: for Allah is exalted in power, wise.”
Well it is self explanatory, the events that will happen during Judgement day and hereafter, nothing to do with the current world because the next verse says
……….” But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, we shall soon admit to Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath their eternal home: there in they shall have companions pure and holy: we shall admit them to shades, cool and ever deepening”
Next Surah, Muhammad verse 4
“Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah’s Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost.”
Actually, the better translation is
“So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates. That (shall be so); and if Allah had pleased He would certainly have exacted what is due from them, but that He may try some of you by means of others; and (as for) those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish.”
Another ethics in war.
The fourth surah, An-Nisa, verse 89
“They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks.”
And the continuation, verse 90
………” Except those who reach a people between whom and you there is an alliance, or who come to you, their hearts shrinking from fighting you or fighting their own people; and if Allah had pleased, He would have given them power over you, so that they should have certainly fought you; therefore if they withdraw from you and do not fight you and offer you peace, then Allah has not given you a way against them.”
Simple, give them war if they give war, offer peace if they offer peace.
According to Wilders, the last surah, Al-Anfal, verse 39 reads
“Fight them until there is no dissension and the religion is entirely Allah’s”
While actually it is read,
………. “And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah; but if they desist, then surely Allah sees what they do.”
So, it is quite clear it is misinterpreted (stupidly). In the movie as well, they showed the twin towers hit by the jets and crashed down, which I think was a plot by the US themselves (google it up if you don’t know). And that there were also several Islamic extremist in the movie, which I think whoever they are, they are not the prophet. So what they say does not represent what the Quran says (which is the truth).
Fitna means “To create divisions and hatred” which literally represents itself.
